Dance 113: Last Dance

This is it: the end of my daily dance project.
I will keep dancing, will keep making videos, but not specifically for this project.
I feel it has found its natural end. Perhaps I will write more about it or not.
Thank you for participating in this experience with me.

Dance 109: Tiny and Mamadou Return

Back to the past.......home videos with cats. Interessting to me though.......I was not intentionally focusing on having my movement informed by Charlotte/Tiny but I ended up chosing various poses and movement utilizing only 3 of my limbs.

Dance 103a: Duet with Akili Jamal Haynes

Upon returning from La Bergerie, I felt the need to return to some basic practices of improvisation. During the session this excerpt was taken from, my focus was developing and exploring one thing thoroughly at a time...trying to figure out the specifics of a particular movement or impulse...working with slow development, movement quality and invention, challenging my usual patterns: in terms of physicality, timing, quality of movement, duration spent on a movement, dynamics, etc etc. My intent was to be very mindful of the details of what I was doing and to challenge and question my usual responses and impulses. It felt like good, deep work...and the results were satisfying. I had particular images at certain points in this improv of being a comic book character or better yet......a graphic novel...because it wasn't meant to be silly but very slightly caricature-ish.

( a larger screen version is available at blip tv under dailydanceproject)

Dance 103b

This clip is an improvised musical solo by Akili. It was part of the section shown above. He has been experimenting with a looping station to create soundscapes. These stations allow for creating many layers but don't necessarily allow for much real time editing: fading tracks in/out, etc etc. Perhaps we'll have some words directly from Akili on this topic. As I described above, these sessions are very much about trying new things and doing the work and research to facilitate the evolution of our improvisational practices.

Dance102: "Marika's Hands"

Another dance video from my residency with Emma Jupe at La Bergerie in Soffin, France. This one features Marika Rizzi. I felt compelled to enter the improvisation/performance space bearing my camera.

Dance101: Duet with Jean-Phi Costes Muscat at La Bergerie

Since I do not speak French (yet!), I required translation of nearly everything during the residency. This duet plays on that idea a little. I still have no idea what Jean-Phi was talking about!!!

DANCE 100: Still in Soffin, France

Well, yes, Dance 100 has arrived. There is some text in the video which expresses my feelings about 100. The volume may need to be turned up a bit to hear well. Here's to many more .......

Dance #97: First Dance from La Bergerie/ Soffin France

The first dance of a series of dances made at or near La Bergerie in Soffin, France. A small town about 3 hours southeast of Paris. The surroundings were so potent and gorgeous, I felt inclined to keep my movement very very simple, often pedestrian. It felt pretentious to launch into some technical dancey-dance and more authentic to just be me there.

Gone Fishing.........

I am off to France to improvise with Emma Jupe, a Paris-based improv collective.
I will indeed be dancing and filming but who knows if I will be posting.
The project continues.....and I will begin posting again ASAP.
